University of Houston-Downtown Junior, Christopher Sharpe, was appointed to the UH System Board of Regents in February 2007 by Governor Rick Perry and will serve through February 2008. Sharpe, a native Houstonian who was home-schooled and maintained Honor Roll status during his high school studies, is majoring in computer science. He is President of UHD’s Student Government Association, and a member of UHD’s Scholars Academy, an academically competitive program that promotes scholarship and student success for undergraduates majoring in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. He is the recipient of an Army Research Office scholarship, and was a member of UHD’s Distributed Network Security Administration Team. Sharpe is employed by Lighthouse Document Solutions as a network administrator, and was formerly under contract by The College of the Mainland as a Web developer. *Sharpe is part of a group of students appointed by the Governor to serve on their respective university system governing boards. The first appointees served from 2006 to 2007. Prior to this, student regents were elected by their peers. These regents appointed from among public university students have the same powers and duties as regents, but do not vote or are considered part of a quorum. 8/2007 |
