Calvin Stephens of Dallas was appointed to the UH System Board of Regents in 2004 by Governor Rick Perry and will serve through August 2009. For fiscal year 2008, he will serve as vice chairman of the board. For fiscal year 2007, he served as board secretary, chair of the Audit Committee, and as a member of the Endowment Management Committee.
Stephens is Chairman and President of SSP Consulting, L. C., a firm that provides surety support for public sector entities. He is also Chairman and Executive Officer of National Corporate Network. Stephens serves on the advisory board of the University of North Texas College of Business Administration and the associate board of the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business. Stephens is a board member of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas and a former chairman of the Southern Dallas Development Corporation. He is chairman of the African American Leadership Council and member of the Chief Executives Round Table.
Governor Bill Clements appointed Stephens to the State Advisory Council on Small Business Assistance in 1979, to a three –year term on the board of the National Advisory Council on Vocational Education.
Stephens is chairman of the board of trustees of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Dallas where he also serves as an ordained deacon.
He earned his bachelor's degree in marketing in 1972 from the University of Houston and earned his master's degree in business from Southern Methodist University.
